WFH a bit chaotic? Hotel day-rates are still an option
While working from home is essential under the current UK Lockdown, there will be times, when you may need to ‘escape’ your work-from-home environment for business purposes.
The justification
Have a deal-breaking online presentation or podcast to give? And already losing sleep over how you are going to have a distraction-free Zoom or Teams meeting that is free from unexpected barking dogs, kids noisily running into view or a persistent delivery person ringing the doorbell, then knowing you can rent a quiet hotel room for the day, could bring a sigh of relief. You might even be able to fit in a bubble bath before you head back home.
And because you are booking a hotel for business purposes, it fits within the parameters of the UK Lockdown, but always check local restrictions in your area. The cost of the room and some food and drink will also be tax-deductible if you run your own business.
Hotels from Bristol to Boston are pitching their empty rooms and spaces as remote working spaces. For example, Workspaces by Hilton is the newest extension of Hilton’s UK and US CleanStay programne. The programme is intended to expand the use of guestrooms to be used as socially distant places to work with daily, flexible offerings. WorkSpaces by Hilton is currently only available in U.S. and UK hotels, but to find a nearby location, you can visit: workspacesbyhilton.com.
Not all hotels are open due to the UK Lockdown, notably big cities, such as London. For example, the Lincoln Plaza London, Curio Collection by Hilton, was closed due to government Lockdown restrictions. The Stafford London also made a statement that it was “with heavy hearts”, that the hotel would once again be following the Government’s advice and temporarily closing The Stafford London from Thursday 5th November. But other hotels may be open. That is why it is important to call the actual hotel before making any online bookings.
However, Hampton by Hilton Bristol City Centre was open for business guests. The bar food is limited to pizza and curry, but takeaway deliveries to the hotel are permitted. Rates for a stay between 10 AM to 4 PM are starting at £50. There is some flexibility on those hours, but you would need to confirm that with the reservations or front desk. Complimentary tea and coffee are available in all rooms.
