Sinéad O’Connor one of the world’s most loved and controversial music artists dies at age 56

Sinéad O’Connor, the singer from Ireland that was equally beloved and scrutinised across the globe since the 1990s lived a rich and tumultuous life filled with success and great loss

Singers, comedians, artists. They are the ultimate freelancers that often have the biggest impression on us. Sinead O’Connor was one of those people. The singer leapt onto the global music scene with her single Nothing Compares 2 You, a song penned by the late music artist formerly known as Prince.

Her death comes soon after her son, Shane O’Connor, who died at the age of 17 in 2022. Near the time of his death, she criticised the Irish authorities whom she alleged had enabled her son to leave hospital while “on suicide watch”.

The singer, who wanted to be known as a protest artist, had suffered from mental illness for some time, it has been reported. However, the cause of her death was not made public at the time of writing.

The singer is survived by her children Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters and Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio.
